The DETERRENCE Act authorizes sentencing enhancements for certain federal crimes when they are directed by or coordinated with foreign governments or their agents. The bill adds enhanced penalties to offenses including kidnapping (up to 10 years), murder-for-hire (up to 5–10 years), threats against federal officials and their families (up to 5–10 years), stalking (up to 30 months to 10 years), assault on federal officers (up to 10 years), and attacks on the President or presidential staff (up to 10 years).
