Summary
The MAGNET Act amends the Magnet Schools Assistance Program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to expand eligibility and funding for magnet school programs designed to promote racial and socioeconomic diversity. The bill allows State educational agencies, in addition to local agencies, to apply for grants and establishes new criteria prioritizing whole-school magnets, inter-district choice programs, inclusive enrollment practices, and schools designed to optimize diversity. It authorizes appropriations through fiscal year 2029 and creates a supplemental diversity grant program to support schools implementing evidence-based desegregation practices.
