The FAMILY Act establishes a federal paid family and medical leave insurance program administered by the Social Security Administration. Eligible individuals would receive benefits for up to 60 caregiving days per benefit period (capped at 20 days per month) when taking leave for qualifying reasons including caring for family members with serious health conditions, their own serious health conditions, childbirth, adoption, military family leave, or situations involving domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. The program would be funded through payroll contributions and administered by a new Office of Paid Family and Medical Leave within the Social Security Administration.
