The Wildfire Response Improvement Act directs the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to review and update its criteria for evaluating the cost-effectiveness of wildfire mitigation projects, including defensible space, nature-based infrastructure, vegetation management, smoke reduction, and water infrastructure protection. The bill requires FEMA to amend its Public Assistance Program guidance to address wildfire-specific recovery challenges such as debris removal and drinking water toxicity, and to make emergency stabilization and assessments eligible for the Fire Management Assistance Program regardless of incident timing. The bill also extends and modifies a waiver of duplicate benefits for wildfire disaster assistance, removing income thresholds and extending the program through 2034.
