The Summit of the Americas Act directs the Secretary of State to host regular Summits of the Americas every four years (or more frequently as appropriate) to strengthen ties and promote cooperation between the United States and Western Hemisphere countries, civil society, and business leaders. The bill authorizes the Secretary to support a Cities Summit of the Americas as part of each summit to promote subnational cooperation and engagement with local and regional leaders. It also authorizes the establishment of a Summit of the Americas Implementation Unit within the State Department to track and ensure implementation of summit commitments, coordinate with federal agencies, and report quarterly on progress.
