The EdCOPS Act of 2024 amends the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to establish a new education assistance program for public safety officers and their children. Eligible public safety officers—those with at least 8 years of service who commit to 4 more years with their employer—may receive federal financial assistance to pursue higher education, with benefits computed using the same methodology as the GI Bill. Officers may also transfer their education benefits to their children, who must use them before age 27. The program is administered by the Attorney General and funded through authorized appropriations.
