This bill directs the Department of Defense to develop a plan for establishing a secure computing and data storage environment, called the 'AIxBio sandbox,' to test artificial intelligence models trained on biological data and develop related products with potential defense applications. The sandbox would leverage existing DoD computing infrastructure and facilitate collaboration between DoD laboratories, academic institutions, and private entities on projects at the intersection of AI and biotechnology, such as medical countermeasures, biological materials for military use, and biomanufacturing for supply chain improvements. The Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering would oversee the sandbox, select projects for development and testing, and establish streamlined processes for collaboration. The bill requires submission of the plan and a briefing to Congress within one year of enactment.
