The Hotel Fees Transparency Act of 2024 prohibits hotels, online travel agencies, metasearch websites, and other short-term lodging providers from advertising prices that do not clearly and prominently display the total price including all required fees (excluding government taxes and assessments). The bill requires covered entities to disclose the total price at the time services are first displayed and throughout the purchasing process, and to disclose any taxes or fees prior to final purchase. Violations are treated as unfair or deceptive practices under the Federal Trade Commission Act, enforceable by the FTC and state attorneys general. The prohibition takes effect 450 days after enactment and applies only to bookings made on or after that date.
