The Blocking Bad Batteries Act prohibits the Department of State from using federal funds to procure batteries produced by six specified Chinese battery manufacturers (CATL, BYD, Envision Energy, EVE Energy, Gotion High-tech, and Hithium Energy Storage) or their successors, effective October 1, 2027. A battery is considered produced by these entities if they assemble or manufacture the final product or provide a majority of its components. The Secretary of State may waive this prohibition if they determine it is important to U.S. national interests and provide written justification to Congress.
