Summary
The Wildfire and Grid Reliability Act establishes a federal grant program administered by the Secretary of Energy to fund projects that improve power grid reliability and reduce wildfire risk from power lines. Eligible entities include public, municipal, cooperative, and investor-owned electric utilities, as well as federal power agencies. Grant funds may be used for activities such as undergrounding power lines, hardening overhead lines, installing monitoring and detection equipment, vegetation management, and constructing microgrids, with at least 40 percent of funds reserved for wildfire mitigation projects and 20 percent for small utilities. The bill authorizes $15 billion annually from fiscal years 2027 through 2036.
