Summary
The Wildfire Research Coordination Act of 2026 directs the Secretary of Defense to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Secretaries of Agriculture and Interior to coordinate research and technology priorities on fire science. The coordination would align Department of Defense research programs with the Joint Fire Science Program to identify joint priorities in mitigation, ecological resilience, fire and smoke modeling, response, and post-fire recovery. The Secretary of Defense must submit a report to Congress within one year on implementation efforts.
