The TRAVEL Act of 2026 amends federal law to authorize the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to assign VA physicians to temporarily serve as traveling physicians in U.S. territories and possessions, including Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Virgin Islands, and others. Traveling physicians would serve for periods of up to one year and would coordinate care with non-Department medical providers. The bill provides that traveling physicians receive relocation or retention bonuses in addition to their regular pay, and makes technical corrections to related provisions in the VA compensation statute.
