The 6PPD Task Force Act establishes a task force, to be administered by the National Academy of Sciences in consultation with the Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency, to address the environmental and health impacts of the chemical 6PPD and its degradation product 6PPD-Q, which are toxic to coho salmon and other aquatic species. The task force will coordinate research and data sharing among federal agencies, states, tribes, and private sector entities; identify federal funding opportunities for developing safer alternatives to 6PPD in tires; and provide recommendations for expediting testing and adoption of alternative chemicals while maintaining vehicle safety standards. The task force will also maintain a publicly accessible online repository of funding information, technical assistance, and research findings.
