Congressman Tim Moore Introduces Legislation to Block Visas for Foreign Violators of Religious Freedom

Position: Congressman Moore supports legislation to restrict visas for foreign individuals and non-state actors who have committed violations of religious freedom, including persecution of religious minorities. The bill codifies Trump administration policies targeting those responsible for religious persecution.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Good Friday, Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) introduced H.R. 8182, the Banning Perpetrators of Religious Persecution Act, to restrict visas for individuals who have directed, authorized, significantly supported, participated in, or carried out violations of religious freedom. It also expands visa ineligibility to terrorist or non-state actors responsible for violations of religious freedom, in addition to foreign government officials responsible for the persecution of religious groups. “Across parts of Nigeria, Christians and other religious minorities are being hunted and brutally executed simply because of their faith. These are acts of pure evil, carried out by people who show no regard for human life or basic decency. Those responsible for these or similar atrocities should never, under any circumstance, be welcomed into the United States, and doing so would be a betrayal of the American people and our values. The Trump administration is on the right path, and we need to codify this policy and make it the law of the land,” said Congressman Moore. “Nigeria is just one of many examples where non-state actors and terrorist groups are carrying out kidnappings and killings of Christians and other religious minorities. It is entirely unacceptable for the U.S., a nation founded on the principle of religious freedom, to allow such foreign nationals into our country. By codifying the Trump administration’s directive to bar these malign actors from obtaining U.S. visas, we are establishing robust consequences for violators and sending a loud and clear message to the rest of the world that America will not tolerate any attack on religious freedom. I am grateful to Congressman Moore for joining me in leading this critical legislation in the House,” said Senator Ted Budd (R-NC), sponsor of the Senate companion, S. 3679. Specifically, this legislation: ·Codifies Trump Administration policies enacted following reports of brutal killings and violence against religious minorities in Nigeria. ·Requires the Secretary of State to make the names of all aliens determined to be inadmissible publicly accessible. ·Provides an exception if the Secretary of State determines that the public release of the identity of such an alien would have adverse foreign policy consequences. Original cosponsors include Reps. Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13), Julie Fedorchak (ND-AL), Mike Kennedy (UT-03), Keith Self (TX-03), Addison McDowell (NC-06), Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03), Nancy Mace (SC-01), Glenn Grothman (WI-06), Greg Steube (FL-17), and Daniel Webster (FL-11). Congressman Tim Moore Leads North Carolina Delegation on Letter to Secretary Markwayne Mullin Urging Review of Pending Hurricane Helene Funds

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) led a letter, signed by the North Carolina Congressional Delegation, to newly-confirmed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin, urging the immediate review of all pending Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding for Hurricane Helene Recovery. The lawmakers wrote, “We respectfully ask that you prioritize a comprehensive review of all unallocated FEMA funds designated for Hurricane Helene relief. Identifying and addressing any administrative or procedural bottlenecks will be essential to ensuring that obligated funds reach communities in North Carolina as quickly as possible.” The letter also congratulates Secretary Mullin on his confirmation this week, and highlights President Trump’s early focus and ongoing work in the region. “His visit following his inauguration, along with his willingness to call out the failures in FEMA's response to Hurricane Helene, sent a strong message to the communities impacted by the storm. We strongly support the President's continued commitment to our state and efforts to ensure FEMA operates more efficiently,” the letter states. Signers of the letter include Reps. Chuck Edwards (NC-11), Virginia Foxx (NC-05), Mark Harris (NC-08), Pat Harrigan (NC-10), Richard Hudson (NC-09), Brad Knott (NC-13), Addison McDowell (NC-06), Gregory F. Murphy, M.D. (NC-03), and David Rouzer (NC-07). Read the full text of the letter HERE.

Moore Statement on U.S. Military Action Against Iranian Regime

Position: Congressman Moore supports President Trump's military action against Iran, citing the Iranian regime's history of sponsoring terrorism and threatening U.S. security and allies.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) released the following statement after President Trump announced U.S. military action against the Iranian regime: "There is no doubt the Iranian regime has American blood on its hands and has spent decades working against the safety of the United States and our allies. They are the world’s leading state sponsor of terror and have destabilized the region for generations. President Trump has made it clear that Iran will never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon or threaten the American people. I support President Trump’s decision to take action and stand firmly with our servicemen and women. God bless our troops."
