Smith, Matsui Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Expand Access to Life-Saving IVIG Treatment

Position: Representatives Smith and Matsui introduced bipartisan legislation to create a dedicated Medicare payment for skilled nursing facilities to provide intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatments onsite for patients with primary immunodeficiencies, aiming to reduce treatment delays and hospitalizations.

Today, U.S. Representatives Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) and Doris Matsui (D-CA-07) introduced the PI Post Acute Access Act to expand access to life-saving care for individuals with primary immunodeficiencies (PI). Their bipartisan legislation would create a dedicated payment within Medicare for Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) to provide intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatments onsite. This would prevent dangerous treatment delays, reduce avoidable hospitalizations, and ensure vulnerable patients get the care they need when and where they need it. "Outdated billing measures should not prevent vulnerable patients from receiving lifesaving care when and where they need it. I am proud to join Congresswoman Matsui in introducing our bipartisan PI Post Acute Access Act to cut red tape and ensure that PI patients have access to the critical care they need,” said Smith. “Patients living with primary immunodeficiencies should not have to fight through red tape to get the care they need to stay healthy and safe. For many families, timely access to IVIG treatment can mean the difference between stability and a serious medical crisis. I have long worked to protect access to these life-saving therapies, and the PI Post Acute Access Act builds on that commitment by helping ensure Medicare beneficiaries can continue receiving essential treatment in nursing facilities. No one should be left behind simply because of where they are receiving care,” said Matsui. "For Medicare beneficiaries living with primary immunodeficiency, access to life-saving IVIG therapy should never depend on where they receive care. This bill ensures that patients who need skilled nursing services are not forced to choose between essential care and the medication they need to survive. By creating a targeted payment solution, Congress can protect a vulnerable group and uphold the promise of equitable access for all patients, including those living with a rare condition,”said Jorey Berry, President & CEO of the Immune Deficiency Foundation. Smith in Washington Times: Unleashing America’s Energy Independence

Position: Congressman Smith advocates for passage of his Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act to establish year-round, nationwide E15 fuel availability, arguing it is compatible with existing vehicles and infrastructure and represents a practical step toward energy independence.

Today, Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-03) penned an op-ed in the Washington Times urging his colleagues in Congress to join him in unleashing America’s energy independence by passing his Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, making nationwide, year-round E15 a reality. Click here to read the op-ed in full or read an excerpt below: We already know E15 works. It is compatible with 97% of vehicles on the road today and can be delivered through existing infrastructure. Summertime waivers have demonstrated its success, but we cannot continue to substitute temporary fixes for permanent solutions. The question is no longer whether E15 makes sense; it does. The question is whether my colleagues in Congress will join me and do the right thing. Nationwide, year-round E15 is not just an energy policy; it is a practical step toward a stronger, more secure, and affordable future. With unprecedented support from the administration and leadership across Washington, the opportunity is here. It’s time for bad actors to get out of the way so Congress can cement America’s energy independence by making nationwide, year-round E15 a reality once and for all.

Smith Introduces Bill to Secure a Strong Financial Start for Future Generations

Position: Congressman Smith and colleagues introduced legislation to make permanent a $1,000 federal contribution to tax-advantaged savings accounts (Trump Accounts) for newborns, with inflation indexing beginning in 2029, extending a pilot program set to expire in 2028.

Today, Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-03) led his colleagues in introducing the Trump Accounts for All Generations Act to permanently extend the Trump Accounts contribution pilot program, created by the Working Families Tax Cuts, which is set to expire at the end of 2028. Smith’s legislation would ensure that every future American newborn can receive the $1,000 investment when opening a Trump Account while also indexing the $1,000 investment to inflation beginning in 2029. The legislation is also co-led by U.S. Representatives Blake Moore (UT-01) and Brian Jack (GA-03). "The Trump Account contribution pilot program opened the door for parents to provide their children with a strong financial foundation from day one. But this historic investment is at risk of disappearing after President Trump leaves office. I introduced the Trump Accounts for All Generations Act to ensure that every future generation of Americans can have a strong financial start in life,”said Smith. “One of the most significant policies we enacted in the Working Families Tax Cuts was the creation of investment accounts for every American child. Trump Accounts will set our children up for financial stability and the $1,000 federal contribution for newborns will jumpstart their savings. I was proud to lead the original legislation that launched the program and I’m excited to introduce the Trump Accounts for All Generations Act to make this federal investment permanent for generations to come,” said Moore. “On Independence Day 2025, President Trump enacted one of the most significant laws in American history: the Working Families Tax Cuts, delivering the largest tax cut in American history and establishing the foundation for Trump Accounts. I am proud to support the Trump Accounts for All Generations Act, which would make these tax-advantaged savings accounts permanent and ensure the next generation of Americans has the tools to build wealth, pursue opportunity, and create a better future for themselves and their families. I commend President Trump for his leadership, and I look forward to advocating for this legislation throughout the Congressional process,” said Jack. BACKGROUND: Under the Working Families Tax Cuts, Republicans created an opportunity for parents, guardians, and other authorized individuals to establish a new tax-advantaged savings account for their children, called Trump Accounts, with the ability to contribute up to $5,000 annually. In addition to creating the Trump Accounts, Republicans authorized a pilot program contribution of $1,000 for any child who is a U.S. citizen with a valid Social Security number born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028. The Trump Accounts for All Generations Act would make the $1,000 Trump Account contribution permanent and index the investment to inflation starting in 2029.
