Walberg-Backed Farm Bill Passes House

Position: Rep. Walberg supports the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, which reauthorizes farm programs for five years and provides regulatory certainty, risk management tools, and market access for farmers and agricultural producers.

Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) voted for the Farm, Food, and National Security Act, which authorizes farm programs for the next five years to support our nation's farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers. The legislation provides long-overdue regulatory certainty for interstate commerce, enhances risk management tools for specialty crop producers, reduces energy costs for rural families, and champions American commodities in global markets. "America’s hardworking farmers deserve policies that reflect the realities they face today," said Rep. Walberg. "This Farm Bill builds on the successes of the Working Families Tax Cuts, which provided the largest investment in American farmers in at least a generation, to ensure farmers have the tools they need to thrive. Michigan farmers feed and fuel the world, and this Farm Bill brings much-needed certainty to the producers who keep America's food supply strong." Background The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026: Builds on the historic agricultural investments included in the Working Families Tax Cuts Completes overdue reauthorization of key farm bill programs across conservation, rural development, research, trade, energy, and specialty crops Expands market access for U.S. agriculture by strengthening export promotion programs and reducing trade barriers Improves access to credit for farmers and ranchers while supporting young and beginning producers Invests in rural communities through stronger broadband, rural health care access, water infrastructure, and workforce development Promotes precision agriculture, research, and innovation to keep American producers competitive Supports voluntary, locally led conservation programs that protect working lands without adding unnecessary regulations Issues:Agriculture

Walberg Highlights National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

This Saturday, April 25, is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) encourages his constituents to participate by visiting one of the many drug disposal locations available throughout Michigan’s 5th Congressional District and beyond between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. “Across the country, families and communities are feeling the effects of the addiction crisis, and one of the most important steps we can take is to keep prescription medications from falling into the wrong hands," said Rep. Walberg. "Leftover or expired prescriptions often accumulate in our homes, where they can be misused, stolen, or illegally sold. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day offers a safe and responsible way to dispose of unneeded medications at drop‑off sites. I encourage all residents to check their medicine cabinets and safely discard any unused prescriptions to help keep our communities safe.” Residents who have expired or leftover medications can visit the Drug Enforcement Administration’s website here to find more information about available disposal sites. Walberg’s efforts to combat the opioid crisis across our nation: As a member of the Bipartisan Heroin Task Force, Congressman Walberg has been committed to working with his colleagues to address the alarming opioid epidemic that is affecting communities in Michigan and sweeping the nation. In 2018, Democrats and Republicans worked together to pass a landmark bill, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, signed into law by President Trump. Walberg proudly authored multiple bipartisan provisions in this historic bill to crack down on the epidemic. After the bill’s implementation, opioid overdoses not only slowed but began to decrease. To build on this success, in 2025, the House passed, and President Trump signed into law the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act. This legislation reauthorizes the successful programs passed in the original bill and will continue to help those struggling with addiction. The Congressman was also a proud cosponsor of the HALT Fentanyl Act, which was signed into law by President Trump last year and permanently placed fentanyl-related substances in Schedule I under the Controlled Substances Act. This critical legislation provides law enforcement with the tools necessary to keep these dangerous substances off our streets. Walberg Applauds Historic Tax Refund Season

This Tax Day, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) released the following statement, celebrating the largest tax refund season in American history. "This tax season, millions of working-class Americans are benefiting from the critical relief delivered in the Working Families Tax Cuts, making it the largest tax refund season in history," said Rep. Walberg. "Policies like no tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security will help Michigan families pocket more of their hard-earned money, increasing their take-home pay, and boosting the economy. This once-in-a-generation legislation also prevented residents of Michigan’s 5th Congressional District from seeing a 27% tax hike to make life more affordable for families across the district. We will continue to work on reducing costs and delivering vital relief for hardworking Michiganders." Background The One Big Beautiful Bill Act — the historic Working Families Tax Cuts — provided tax relief that will contribute to the largest tax refund in history, including: Increasing by $1,500 per family and making permanent the doubled standard deduction. Making permanent the lower tax rates from the 2017 Trump tax cuts. Implementing no tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security for 88% of recipients. Boosting the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 and indexing it to inflation. Expanding access to child care and making permanent the paid leave tax credit. Expanding 529 savings accounts to help families choose the education that best fits their needs. Providing a $1,000 savings account to support the future of every newborn child. Walberg Introduces Legislation to Protect Fisheries from Cormorants

Position: Rep. Walberg introduced legislation to establish a federal framework for managing double-crested cormorant populations through regional coordination, citing economic damage to Great Lakes fisheries and the need for science-based population control.

Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) introduced the Responsible Cormorant Management and Control Act to ensure effective, science‑based management of double‑crested cormorant populations across the United States. The bill directs the Secretary of the Interior to develop regional management frameworks to guide the responsible take of double‑crested cormorants, working in coordination with the nation’s four Regional Flyway Councils. Double‑crested cormorants have long posed challenges for fisheries and wildlife populations when their numbers become overabundant. In the Great Lakes, cormorant populations have wreaked havoc on fish stocks, inflicting millions of dollars in damage to the Great Lakes fisheries. This legislation would establish a comprehensive, collaborative framework to ensure that population management is effective and sustainable, better protecting fisheries and other wildlife habitats. "Great Lakes fisheries are essential to Michigan's economy, outdoor recreation, and cultural heritage," said Rep. Walberg. "Recreational fishing across the Great Lakes generates $5.1 billion in economic benefit only, supporting local jobs and tourism economies throughout the state. When double‑crested cormorant populations grow beyond sustainable levels, they can significantly deplete fish stocks. This legislation ensures we have a responsible, science‑driven framework to protect Michigan’s fisheries." "The rapid recovery and proliferation of double crested cormorant populations create challenges for not only public and private aquaculture facilities but also for fisheries and land managers in many cases," said Taylor Schmitz, Senior Vice President of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF). "The Responsible Cormorant Management and Control Act provides a science-based, proven framework approach to delegating management authority to the states where needed. CSF appreciates Rep. Walberg for his leadership in developing a workable solution to a growing concern among anglers across the country." "The Responsible Cormorant Management and Control Act provides a much-needed, science-based framework to protect fisheries and aquatic habitats," said Connor Bevan, Inland Fisheries Policy Director at the American Sportfishing Association (ASA). "By ensuring states and tribes have the tools they need to manage regional impacts while maintaining sustainable populations, this legislation supports effective management of double-crested cormorants. On behalf of the nation’s recreational fishing industry, ASA thanks Representative Walberg for his leadership on this important legislation." Issues:Local Issues

Walberg Votes for the Third Time to Fund the Department of Homeland Security

Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) voted for the Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act, which would reopen and fully fund the Department of Homeland Security. This marks the third vote by Congressman Walberg to ensure full funding for the salaries of the men and women on the front lines, including the Border Patrol, Transportation and Security Administration, U.S. Coast Guard, and Secret Service. The legislation was passed by a vote of 218-206. "The Department of Homeland Security carries out a critical mission to ensure the safety of our communities, especially during a time of heightened global tensions and increased and evolving terror threats," said Rep. Walberg. "The Department's current 41-day shutdown is jeopardizing essential services like TSA, the Coast Guard, and FEMA. My constituents, many of whom are recovering from this month's devastating tornadoes, deserve these vital services. I urge Senate Democrats to support this funding, which was negotiated in a bipartisan manner, to reopen the Department and ensure our homeland defenders are treated like the essential personnel they are, not political pawns by Democrats." Background On January 19, the House Appropriations Committee announced the conferenced Department of Homeland Security funding bill that was negotiated on a bipartisan, bicameral basis. On January 22, House Republicans passed this full-year funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security. Democrats voted against this previously negotiated bill in the Senate on February 12. On February 14, the Department of Homeland Security shut down, impacting FEMA, the Coast Guard, Secret Service, CISA, and other critical security operations. On March 5, House Republicans voted again to pass a full-year funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security. Issues:Defense and National Security
