This bill establishes that jurisdictions designated as 'sanctuary jurisdictions' are ineligible to receive grant funds administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). A sanctuary jurisdiction is defined as any state or political subdivision that has laws, ordinances, policies, or practices prohibiting or restricting the sharing of immigration status information with federal authorities or compliance with Department of Homeland Security detainer requests. The HUD Secretary, in consultation with the DHS Secretary, would determine which jurisdictions qualify as sanctuary jurisdictions, with the restriction taking effect 180 days after enactment.
