The FAMILY Act establishes a federal paid family and medical leave insurance program administered by the Social Security Administration. Eligible individuals would receive wage-replacement benefits for up to 12 weeks per year when taking leave for qualifying reasons, including childbirth, caring for a family member with a serious health condition, their own serious health condition, military family leave, or to address domestic violence or other qualifying acts of violence. The program would be funded through payroll contributions and administered by a new Office of Paid Family and Medical Leave within SSA.
