The SECURE Grid Act amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to require states to address physical security, cybersecurity, and resilience of local electricity distribution systems in their state energy security plans. The bill expands the definition of energy infrastructure to include local distribution systems (infrastructure operating at 100 kilovolts or less), requires states to assess physical threats, cyberattacks, and supply chain risks, and mandates a risk mitigation approach for responding to and recovering from hazards. The bill also requires the Government Accountability Office to report by September 30, 2030, on the effectiveness of state energy security plans and federal coordination efforts, and sets a sunset date of September 30, 2031, for these requirements.
