Summary
This bill amends the Federal Crop Insurance Act to specify which data sets the Secretary of Agriculture must use when determining whether counties are eligible for indemnity payments under the Hurricane Insurance Protection-Wind Index (HIP-WI) crop insurance endorsement. Beginning in crop year 2027, the Secretary must use the IBTrACS data set from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or an alternative data set compiled from land-grant university weather stations if IBTrACS data is incomplete and certain weather monitoring infrastructure was damaged. The bill requires the Secretary to issue implementing regulations within 180 days.
