The DHS Release Transparency Act requires the Department of Homeland Security to offer detained individuals the option to designate a point of contact (such as a family member or attorney) and provide their contact information. Before releasing a detainee held for more than 12 hours by U.S. Customs and Border Protection or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, DHS must notify the designated point of contact at least twice. The bill requires DHS to provide translation and interpretation services in the detainee's chosen language and prohibits using information collected under this section for enforcement purposes.
