This bill amends the Internal Revenue Code to treat certain online marketplace providers as importers for purposes of the federal excise tax on sporting goods. Under the bill, when a marketplace provider (such as an e-commerce platform) facilitates the sale of imported sporting goods and collects payment from the purchaser, the marketplace provider would be liable for the excise tax rather than the manufacturer or other seller. The provision applies to sales of articles transported to the U.S. from outside the country in connection with a marketplace sale, and takes effect 60 days after enactment.
