The 6PPD Task Force Act establishes a task force, to be administered by the National Academy of Sciences in consultation with the Secretary of Transportation and EPA Administrator, to address the environmental and health impacts of the chemical 6PPD and its byproduct 6PPD-Q, which are toxic to coho salmon and other aquatic species. The task force will coordinate research and data-sharing among federal agencies, research institutions, and state and tribal governments; identify federal funding opportunities for developing alternatives to 6PPD; and recommend strategies for expediting testing and adoption of safer tire additives. The task force will also share best practices for 6PPD mitigation and maintain a public online repository of funding information and technical resources.
