Summary
The Social Determinants for Moms Act requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish a multi-agency task force to develop strategies for eliminating preventable maternal mortality, severe maternal morbidity, and maternal health disparities. The task force will include representatives from 17 federal agencies and appointed members from patient advocacy groups, community organizations, and maternal health experts, and must submit annual reports to Congress with recommendations. The bill also authorizes $100 million in grants annually from 2027–2031 to community-based organizations, Indian tribes, and public health departments to address social determinants of maternal health such as housing, transportation, nutrition, employment, environmental conditions, and intimate partner violence.
