House Passes Letlow Bill Supporting Louisiana Farmers, Forest Landowners

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House of Representatives has passed Congresswoman Julia Letlow’s bill to protect Louisiana’s signature timber industry by cutting red tape for forest landowners, while also strengthening support for impacted livestock producers. The Emergency Conservation Program Improvement Act would better support Louisiana’s timber economy in the event of natural disasters, assuring more timely and effective support when disasters like wildfires strike. These events not only devastate forest land, but also disrupt grazing operations, destroy fencing and water infrastructure, and create significant recovery costs for livestock producers. “I’m thrilled to see the House pass my bill to protect Louisiana’s signature timber economy. The legislation also includes damage caused by man-made fires when spread by natural conditions, as well as wildfires originating from federal actions. The election integrity measure has yet to receive a Senate vote as Democrats block without having a real debate on the issue. The SAVE America Act would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote and photo identification when casting a ballot. An illegal immigrant was recently charged with fraudulently voting in five presidential elections, each time claiming to be a U.S. citizen. “Only Americans should be voting in American elections, but election integrity has stalled in the Senate,” said Congresswoman Julia Letlow. “The modern filibuster is blocking a real debate on preventing fraud in our elections. The Senate should advance the SAVE America Act by enforcing a talking filibuster, if that’s what it takes to secure our elections.” A talking filibuster would require the minority to continuously speak on the Senate floor. Letlow said Senate Democrats should not be allowed to quietly block legislation that would protect election integrity. “If Democrats want to obstruct this bill, they should have to stand on the floor and explain to the American people why they oppose proof of citizenship for voting,” added Letlow. Legislation realigns Louisiana’s federal judicial districts to improve public safety WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Julia Letlow has filed the Judicial Efficiency and Reform Act to improve public safety in Louisiana’s Capital Region. The bill would reduce caseloads in the Middle District, which houses Baton Rouge, by shifting West Feliciana Parish to the Western District. Louisiana has three federal judicial districts. West Feliciana Parish currently falls within the Middle District, creating significant case backlogs due to an excessive litigatory environment often involving the Louisiana State Penitentiary. The Middle District currently has 25% more new filings per judge than the Western District, spreading resources thin at a time of continued violent crime concerns in the Baton Rouge area. The current chief judge has also released several notably violent offenders in recent months — including a convicted rapist — as attorneys for illegal immigrants fight deportation efforts at every turn. These legal battles often lead to dangerous criminals being released into local communities, while also delaying justice throughout the entire court system. “Louisiana’s federal courts are desperately in need of a more balanced system that protects public safety, provides justice for victims, and holds criminals accountable,” said Congresswoman Julia Letlow. “We have seen outrageous examples of violent criminals released from Louisiana Lockup as lawyers for illegal immigrants and other violent criminals flood sympathetic judges with lawsuits.
