The Municipal Investment and Neighborhood Transformation (MINT) Act restores and makes permanent authority for Federal Home Loan Banks to support tax-exempt municipal bonds used to finance essential housing-related infrastructure projects such as water systems, sewer upgrades, hospitals, and schools. This authority previously existed from 2008 to 2010 and helped finance nearly $4 billion in local projects before expiring. "Even one illegal vote is an attack on our democracy," Chairwoman McClain said. "Secretary Jocelyn Benson told Michiganders their elections were secure, then her own office admitted noncitizens voted in a federal election. That's a stunning failure. The people of Michigan deserve the full truth and real accountability." Rep. At a Congressional hearing in September 2024, Benson claimed, "There is no evidence that non-citizens are voting." Secretary Benson is publicly opposed to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would prevent noncitizens from voting by requiring individuals to provide documents proving they are a United States citizen, such as a REAL ID, to register to vote.
