Summary
This bill amends Medicare law to strengthen protections for beneficiaries receiving orthotic and prosthetic care. It prohibits Medicare payment for orthotics and prosthetics delivered via drop shipment without prior patient training, expands the list of qualified practitioners (including physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthotists, and prosthetists) who can prescribe these items outside competitive bidding, and ensures beneficiary access to replacement custom-fitted and custom-fabricated orthotics. The bill directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to issue implementing regulations within one year.
