Summary
This bill amends Medicare (Title XVIII of the Social Security Act) to expand coverage of genetic counseling services furnished by licensed or certified genetic counselors beginning January 1, 2027. The bill defines covered genetic counseling services, establishes qualifications for genetic counselors (state licensure or American Board of Genetic Counseling certification), sets Medicare payment at 80 percent of 85 percent of the physician fee schedule amount, and prohibits balance billing by genetic counselors. The bill does not prevent physicians and other providers from continuing to bill for genetic counseling services under existing Medicare coverage.
