Summary
The bill amends the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to direct the Attorney General to award grants to states, local governments, and Tribal governments for legal representation and resources for individuals seeking extreme risk protection orders, which restrict a named person's access to firearms. Permitted uses include counsel, interpretation and translation services, legal resource centers, hiring personnel, subgrants to nonprofits, and training on the differences between extreme risk protection orders and domestic violence protection orders. The bill authorizes $50 million per year for fiscal years 2027 through 2031 and also provides that no federal court may exercise jurisdiction over a cause of action arising from an extreme risk protection order petition unless the petition was false or intentionally harassing.
